Is home schooling legal?
YES! Homeschooling is legal throughout the United States. Each state is free to create its own legal structure for home education, so one state’s homeschooling laws may look very different from another’s.
How much are HELPS membership fees?
$17 per year until July 31, 2018 // $20 per year starting August 1, 2018
What is co-op and how can I join?
Our co-op is an academic group. We have a formally structured group of parents that meet once a week to form classes for our children. We serve nursery through highschool with classes ranging from arts, music, sciences, math, and history. Co-op currently has a waiting list, every semester we open enrollment to HELPS members when we have openings. Must be a HELPS member for 1 year before you are eligible to join.
What are membership fees used for?
Membership fees are used to maintain our website, cover insurance premiums, kindergarten and 8th grade graduation, high school graduation fees, and to help off set our small group activities. We also help offset some of the field trip fees when possible.
I can't afford the Membership Fee / Renewal Fee. Can I still join?
We will try to help all of our families stay a part of the group, even through financial difficulties. If you are having problems paying your membership fee please speak with one of the board members for arrangements.

Home School Legal Defense Association is a nonprofit advocacy organization established to defend and advance the constitutional right of parents to direct the upbringing and education of their children and to protect family freedoms. We provide homeschooling-related legal advice and representation to our 84,000+ member families, promote homeschool-friendly legislation at the state and federal levels, and offer information and resources to encourage and support all homeschoolers.
